Adhoc economic policies cannot produce desire results, said former SAARC secretary general

LAHORE: Rehmatullah Javed, Founder Secretary General of the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation & national expert on Small and Medium Enterprises stated that a country which adopts an adhoc economic policies can never produce desired results.

In a statement issued on Monday, Javed said that a country can only become economically sound by promoting its exports, industry and trade. He stated that prices of day to day utility items are already creating misery for a common citizen which must be addressed as soon as possible.

He said that a huge figure of foreign debt of $127 billion by Pakistan is an uphill task and to redeem it, Pakistan must draw a road map of promoting exports and reducing it undue expenses.

Pakistan must control and stop imports of all luxury items such as clothes juices chocolates, shampoo chandeliers and most expensive luxury cars and all those items which are not made in Pakistan, he said.

Javed added that enhancing tax collection do not serve the issue but going to disturb the economic peace and industrialization, which will create employment problems.

He requested the Prime Minster Imran Khan to take private sector in confidence to change the present scenario. “Private sector must be taken on board on all economic committees in the parliament”, Javed added.
