PSW’s Khadijah – Women Entrepreneurship Program holds its second iteration in Lahore

LAHORE: Pakistan Single Window (PSW) takes another step towards fostering women’s participation in international trade with the successful organization of the Khadijah – The Women Entrepreneurship Program in Lahore. This initiative follows the Program’s official launch in Karachi on December 15, 2022, aiming to increase female participation in international trade through the PSW platform.

Khadijah – The Women Entrepreneurship Program aligns with the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to gender equality and economic empowerment for women. The Program has been designed to equip and empower women entrepreneurs, enabling them to play a more significant role in the dynamic landscape of cross-border trade. The overarching goal is to provide women with the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills to thrive in international trade, contributing to the economic growth of Pakistan. 

The impactful event was headlined by Zeba Hai Azhar, Member Customs, Federal Board of Revenue and Chairperson of the PSW Board of Directors along with Ms. Riffat Malik, Vice President FPCCI. Distinguished speakers from the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, the State Bank of Pakistan, REMIT, IPA-USAID, SMEDA, Trade Foresight and representatives from FedEx and HBL delivered the training sessions organized around access to information, access to finance, and e-commerce procedures involving banks, couriers, and customs. Their collective presence underscored a united commitment to the Program’s mission of empowering women in international trade.

Member Customs Madam Zeba Hai Azhar shared her thoughts on the initiative, “I commend PSW’s unwavering dedication to facilitating the growth of SMEs and empowering women-led businesses in cross-border trade. By fostering inclusivity and equality, PSW is playing a pivotal role in unlocking the vast potential of women entrepreneurs, ensuring they thrive in the dynamic landscape of international trade.”

Speaking on the occasion, CEO PSW Mr. Aftab Haider said, “We are inspired by the resilience and innovation demonstrated by Pakistani women entrepreneurs. The second edition of Khadijah – The Women Entrepreneurship program is our humble contribution to encouraging more women entrepreneurs to join cross border trade and expand the reach of their products to international markets. Through collaborative efforts, PSW aims to create a nurturing ecosystem that facilitates women-led businesses to take advantage of the digitalized ecosystem, unlocking their full potential to benefit our nation’s economy.”

Ms. Riffat Malik, Vice President FPCCI commended the Khadijah program, stating, “The focus on women’s economic empowerment through initiatives like PSW’s Women Entrepreneurship Program reflects a progressive approach. We welcome the various Government initiatives to promote inclusivity in cross-border trade and to encourage more women led businesses to scale up. I encourage PSW to continue their impactful work fostering a more inclusive and equitable trading environment.”

As part of its Gender Action Plan, PSW seeks to narrow the opportunity and gender gap through a fully integrated digital system that provides women entrepreneurs with an easily accessible environment that eliminates potential gender discrimination from the cross-border trading industry of Pakistan.

PSW is an integrated digital platform that allows parties involved in trade and transport to lodge standardized information and documents with a single-entry point to fulfill all import, export, and transit-related regulatory requirements. It aims to reduce the time and cost of doing business by digitalizing Pakistan’s cross-border trade and eliminating paper-based manual processes. PSW’s digital platform will transform the trading landscape of Pakistan. It automates and integrates cross-border trade-related procedures of Customs and other government agencies (OGAs) making trade faster, more accessible, and budget-friendly.
